County Administration Appreciates "Boots" Boyer for Contribution

George "Boots" Boyer receives Certificate of Appreciation from Commissioner Jess Santamaria for his contribution to the Archeological Investigation of Lake Okeechobee.

Boots donated 100's of hours of his time and use of airboat to the finding of artifacts in Lake Okeechobee.

Boot's was appointed as guardian of the artifacts by Governor Charlie Crist.

Recovering History

George "Boots" Boyer (airboat operator)appointed guardian of artifacts that have surfaced on Lake Okeechobee due to the drought, guides archaeologists on a tour of Lake Okeechobee to view historical sites.

To preserve the history of the Glades plans are underway to recover the artifacts and place them in a museum in the Glades.

Wrap up 2005

It was a long hot 2005 Hurricane season. It started on July 9, 2005 and ended February 28, 2006. Now it is time to start planning for the 2006 recovery process.

All member of our recovery team are invited to a wrap up 2005 barbecue on Saturday May 20th, 2006 from 1PM til the mosquitos come out at the Belle Glade Marina Pavillion. Bring your family members, fishing poles, and a camera, folding chairs and a cooler with drinks, there will be good food, friends, and fun. See you there After a delicious meal you will be presented with an appreciation award. Guest speakers will give brief presentations about the upcoming changes and safety procedures for 2006. Afterwards you can enjoy an Airboat ride with Boots or take an adventure walk through the park, or sit back and enjoy the music and friends

We will be registering teams for the 2006 year recovery at the new portable office which will be at the Marina. Please bring you insurance and licenses to register for the 2006 Recovery season.

Directions take 715 to W Canal St N and turn West go past the Golf Course and over the bridge to the Marina then follow the signs along the road to the Pavilion area.
